Our
Mission
To provide the highest quality site contracting and excavation services
through a team-based approach, with high integrity, safety and professionalism,
while continuously striving to exceed our client’s expectations.
Company History
P. J. Reilly Contracting Co.,, Inc was originally incorporated in
1991. The original business plan required us to look beyond the
tight market in those days. Original partners, Brian Forcine and
Phil Reilly, attempted to put some of Forcine Concrete’s backhoes
and dump trucks to work. Phil turned to his past contacts and clients.
The challenge was that Phil’s developer clients had large
site work projects and not much small-scale work, except basement
excavation. Phil had significant experience in site work but had
never been involved with lot grading work. But, we saw that an opportunity
was available to us if we balanced the lots. We dug our first basement
in 1992 and by 2003 we were excavating close to 650 units per year.
The
first few years set the tone for our services today. We took all
types of jobs; residential basement excavation, commercial and industrial.
The market was still soft in the Philadelphia region and we did
75% of our volume in the state of Delaware in ’93 and ’94.
Heavy industrial work for Zeneca, ICI Polyurethane and Johnson-Mathey,
all in Delaware. Commercial and light industrial development including
a K-Mart in Bear, Delaware, Oaklands Corporate Center expansions
in Exton, Pureland Industrial Park buildings in New Jersey. We did
gas stations, cell tower sites and a restaurant or two along the
way. We even helped to design and mitigate an old 1100’ long
graphite mine.
The mid to late ‘90’s saw real growth in our residential
lot grading. Larger tract jobs were being awarded to us and our
balanced lot program began to develop. Risks were greater with subdivisions
having more than 100 houses and the liability of balancing the lots.
But we were learning more from each job and were able to fine-tune
the program.
We realized that our people were quite diverse and comfortable
in different scenarios. This was consistent with Phil’s vision
for a successful site company; utilize the equipment across the
board in all markets. We began to get a reputation for not being
scared of any job. We tackled sinkholes and dedication work. Engineers
began to recommend us for tough assignments. Certain clients such
as Liberty Property Trust began utilizing us on a consistent basis
for parking lot repairs due to sinkholes and other site maintenance
items. This established a certain niche in the market place. This
niche is now and always has been a very important part of the services
we offer.
From these early days we have grown to the largest lot grading
contractor in the region providing excavation for tract and custom
builders. We perform million dollar plus site work projects for
roads and utilities. And we have dedicated crews providing specialty
“niche “ work for sinkholes, project dedication work,
challenging utility installs, recharge systems etc.
One of our most important events was the move to our new facility
in Eagle, PA in October, 2003. We now have the shop, yard and office
area to compliment our services and allow us to continue to grow.
We are easily accessible from the PA Turnpike and located along
the expanding Rt. 100 corridor in Chester County. We are extremely
proud of our facility and especially our shop operation. In 2004, we added an Asphalt Paving crew and equipment to our fleet. We can install driveways, parking lots and roads with our own forces.
Our journey to this point has had its interesting turns. However,
our growth and reputation is more a credit to our outstanding employees
and their character than to any business plan. They have opened
the doors to more opportunities because of the reputation that they
demand of themselves and of this company. Our future looks bright
because of the foundation established back in the early ‘90s.
